Okonjo-Iweala designated into Commonwealth abnormal state gathering


Nigeria's previous Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been delegated into a High Level Group on Governance of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Prof. Ben Maloney, Communications Officer, Commonwealth Secretariat, said in an announcement that the High Level Group would make proposals on administration of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The Commonwealth, notwithstanding, denied that the gathering was constituted to furtively start considering who may succeed the Queen as its head.

"At their last Summit in Malta, Commonwealth heads of government guided the Secretary-General to frame the Group.

"The issue of progression of the Head of the Commonwealth isn't a piece of the Group's command," the announcement said.

The gathering is led by Anote Tong, previous President of Kiribati from 2003 to 2016.

Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy amid the organization of previous President Goodluck Jonathan, is among the seven-part gathering.

Others incorporate Lord Howell, previous British Energy Secretary; Louise Frechette, previous UN Deputy Secretary-General; and Robert Hill, previous Australian Defense Minister.

Woman Miller, previous Deputy Prime Minister of Barbados and Dr George Vella, previous Foreign Minister of Malta are likewise individuals from the gathering.

The gathering works freely of the London-based Commonwealth Secretariat and would report just to the heads of Commonwealth governments.
